Weekly Update

Week 1
Accomplished:

As class was cancelled this week the group still met to get acquainted. We had a general discussion of project and created Facebook page for easy communication.

Objective for week 2:

Draft a team contract, come up with a team name, discuss areas of research for each person and sign up to Wix with a team account.

 

 

Week 2
Accomplished:

Acquired our topic the paper industry. Decided on out group name, 404 Not Found. Weekly meeting time was organised for 3.00pm on Thursday. Signed up for wix website creation, wrote and signed group contract, divided up each research area.

Confirmed weekly meeting would be in the Riddet complex. At our first meeting the webpage was updated and further developed. The weekly update was completed and we shared our gathered research information to see what needed to be further researched.

Objective for week 3:

In our next meeting we plan to make our project charter and SIPOC Diagram  

 

 

Week 3
Accomplished:

This week the group further developed the websites homepage as we have gained a better understanding of industries inner workings as well as the process of making paper. We completed our SIPOC diagram. We established which aspects of the project charter each team member is to complete. Solidified which areas each member would focus on for stage 1:

  • Mitchell: Forestry

  • Mathew: Pulping Process

  • Dylan: Paper Making Process

  • Rachael: Final Products

Objective for week 4: 

Each team member will need to research their area for stage 1. Have website address handed into a supervisor.

In our next meeting we plan to further update the website, finalize individual research 

 

 

Week 4
Accomplished:

Meeting was postponed as the team are all individually working on their research for stage 1. The website was updated with all group members’ current industry research.  

Objective for week 5:

In our next meeting we plan to have each team member finish off their individual webpages. Webpage will be fully planed and formed. Weekly update was added to.

 

 

Week 5
Accomplished:

We found out our team members strengths and weaknesses with a personality test. Discussed what problems the New Zealand paper industry will have in the future for stage 2. The main areas we came up with were assigned to a group member below:

  • Mathew: Resources, water, chemicals and energy use.

  • Dylan: Lack of demand, paper used in writing, technology, newspaper advertising, mail (Letters), junk mail and change in market.

  • Rachael: Economy, supply / demand, exports and competition globally. 

  • Mitchell: Raw materials, natural disasters, diseases, housing market, competition for wood resources, land competition, lack of availability of fossil fuels, transport.

Objective for week 6:

Each team member will need to gather information on their assigned areas. In our next meeting we plan to finalize what each individual will focus on for stage 2.

 

 

Week 6
Accomplished:

We split up and began writing our "Future Challenges" sections allocated last week. These are to be completed separately and completed over the holidays. We discussed adding more colour to the website and improving visual appeal which were our main complains in stage 1. Matthew was tasked with making small these improvements discussed. Weekly update was completed.

Objective for week 7:

In our next meeting we plan to have each person’s writing will need to be added to the website. We need to have added our PFD to the website before next week’s assessment.

 

 

Week 7
Accomplished:

Completed the photoshop introduction. Improved usability and visual appeal of website. Added to weekly update.

Objective for week 8:

Individually finish stage 2. In our next meeting we plan to start on stage 3.

 

 

Week 8
Accomplished:

We assessed other websites as part of the stage 2 peer assessment. We began idea generation for the possible solutions for stage 3. We decided as a group by ranking possible problems. There are only two key challenges facing the paper industry in the future, lack of energy and lack of demand. The lack of demand for paper in the future will be the main issue the majority of the group will focus on. We predicted that any attempts to make the paper making process more efficient will be fruitless if there is no demand for paper in the future. The lack of fossil fuels to harvest and transport the paper in the future will make obtaining the raw materials to make paper out of more difficult. Weekly update finished.

Objective for week 9:

In our next meeting we plan to complete idea generation for solutions, screen these ideas and consider which solutions could be further designed.

 

 

Week 9
Accomplished:

We got our results back for the Stage 2 assessment, results were much improved over last time, the addition of a bit more colour and increases in functionality were appreciated by most groups. Mathew added the background to the header of the website this increased the visual appeal of the website, giving it slightly more complexity, based on feedback that the layout was still not "creative" enough. Finalised individual parts for stage 3 and how they integrate together. Uploaded weekly update.

Objective for week 10:

Individually have started to develop solution parts by doing simple sketches and other drawing techniques. Begin portfolio and design report. In our next meeting we plan to organise ideas for the portfolio meeting.

 

 

Week 10
Accomplished:

Each group member prepared for the portfolio meeting on Monday, this was done individually. We summarised how our future problem of demand was chosen as the major issue for the paper industry. Group members discussed chapters from the text book readings in preparation for the project test next Friday. Weekly update complete.

Objective for week 11:

In our next meeting we plan to begin plans for exhibition, continue stage 3 development.

 

 

Week 11
Accomplished:

Portfolio meetings were done this week. From this members were able to continue and improve stage 3. Uploaded weekly update.

Objective for week 12:

Continue individual solution development and design report for stage 3. In our next meeting we plan to discuss portfolio meeting feedback and possibility of prototyping.

 

 

Week 12
Accomplished:

The group met on Monday morning as our usual project class was cancelled. We discussed stage 3b and ensured that group member’s solutions did not overlap. 

Objective for week 13:

In our next meeting we plan to begin planning for stage 4 website completion and generate ideas for the exhibition.

 

 

Week 13
Accomplished:

As a group we have designed a poster for the exhibition then individually wrote a short paragraph to briefly explain solutions to the public. Complete weekly updates and tidy up other pages on the website.

Objective for week 14:

Have everything completed website, poster, exhibition stuff, any prototypes etc…
