Our Solution

In 2015 many products are made using various forms of plastic. The production of plastic is heavily dependent on unsustainable use of fossil fuels. This means in the future plastic will become costly to manufacture as the petrol costs rise and therefore raw material costs for all plastic products go up. This means by 2070 plastic will not be able to be produced economically in the volumes that are needed to supply the industry.

We had to design new products to ensure there is a demand for paper in 2070. Our solutions are based around creating a renewable and recyclable replacement for plastic using either paper, cardboard or pulp derivatives. We have worked together to cover a general bases for plastic replacements broken up into four categories Packaging, storage containers, injection moulded products and furniture. Our four solutions are based around serving the needs that plastic is currently used for.

Our solutions are based on the fact that fossil fuels will become harder to find and less affordable for use in everyday products. Therefore it is likely that our solutions would have a demand if developed properly. It has been predicted in the year 2040 the petroleum industry will see a decline in production and therefore price increases around this time is when our products should completive with the market.

Interlectual Property

Our four solutions could be patented at the development stage once functioning products have been tested. Until then ideas and planning would be strictly confidential, this helps maintain our Intellectual property by keeping trade secrets untill widespread release of our products.

Key Risks and Uncertainties

Our solutions are based around the theory that plastic will be prohibitively expensive to use in the future. This educated assumption had to be made and it is a risk that the paper industry will have to take in order to stay alive. We believe that the paper industry taking over the plastic industry is its best opportunity for growth.
